‎Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has ordered the immediate intensification of waste evacuation operations across the state, following recent refuse buildup in several communities.

‎The governor announced the directive on his X handle, activating a coordinated response involving the Lagos Waste Management Authority, Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency and the Ministry of Environment.

‎Sanwo-Olu said additional waste collection trucks and personnel have been deployed to clear backlogs, while sanitation workers have begun round-the-clock operations to restore cleanliness.

‎“Dear Lagosians, I have directed an immediate scale-up of waste evacuation across Lagos following the recent build-up of refuse in some parts of our state,” the governor posted.

‎He said LAWMA, LASEPA and the Ministry of Environment are “working around the clock” and residents should already see progress on the streets. “We will not stop until our city is completely clean again,” he added.

‎The governor highlighted the scale of the challenge, noting that Lagos generates more than 13,000 tonnes of waste daily. He said continuous intervention and collaboration are essential to maintain environmental standards.

‎Sanwo-Olu assured residents of government’s commitment to resolving the situation and urged public cooperation.

‎“As we continue this cleanup, I ask for your partnership. Please bag your waste properly and avoid dumping refuse in drainage channels or on the roads,” he said.
