    Ruth Kadiri Explains Decision to Upload Movies on YouTube

    Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri has shared her reasons for uploading her movies on YouTube. In an interview , Kadiri revealed that she sought a platform where she could freely express herself and tell her stories, leading her to choose YouTube despite initial discouragement.

    “I have been a producer for a long time, but there are too many rules and regulations during production,” Kadiri explained. She decided to try YouTube to have a space for creative freedom. “For instance, if I see something online I want to learn it and after learning, I want to upload it somewhere.”

    Her decision was also influenced by a period of boredom during a trip to give birth, where she found herself watching many musical videos on YouTube. This inspired her to start uploading her films on the platform despite warnings that it might not be financially lucrative. “Some people discouraged me and told me that there is no money in it. But because I needed a platform to express myself and tell my stories, I decided to try it.”

    Kadiri emphasized that her focus is not on competition but on the opportunities YouTube provides. She noted the platform’s importance for filmmakers and content creators, stating, “If you remove YouTube from the industry, apart from filmmakers and content creators, people will go hungry. YouTube is an opportunity for a lot of filmmakers to make money, and that’s what is happening now.”

    Kadiri currently boasts two million subscribers on YouTube, demonstrating the success and impact of her decision to utilize the platform.
