The Rivers State House of Assembly has rejected four commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The nominees were screened by lawmakers on Monday during a plenary session at the Assembly complex in Port Harcourt.

Following the screening exercise, the Assembly confirmed five of the nominees presented by the governor.

Those confirmed include: Tonye Bellgam, Professor Temple Nwofor, Dr Peters Nwagor, Lekue Kenneth, Sir Amairigha Edward Hart

However, the lawmakers declined to confirm four of the nominees.

Those rejected are: Professor Datonye Alasia, Mrs Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams, Otonye TKD Amachree.

Recall that Governor Fubara had forwarded the names of nine individuals to the State House of Assembly for confirmation as Commissioners and members of the Rivers State Executive Council.

Following the appointments, the House of Assembly had invited the nine nominees to submit the required documents ahead of their screening and confirmation.

The directive was contained in a special government announcement issued last Tuesday and signed by the Clerk of the House, Dr. Emeka Amadi.

According to the notice, the nominees were asked to submit forty (40) copies of their Curriculum Vitae, photocopies of their credentials and evidence of compliance with tax obligations.

“All documents are to be forwarded to the Office of the Clerk at the Assembly Quarters of the Rivers State House of Assembly,” the statement read.
