Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election has taken to his X-handle to commend Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, erstwhile national chairman of the All Progressives Congress who quit his position on Friday over suspected health related matters.

Obi said the action taken by Ganduje is both wise and honourable and recommended same for other national leaders who for health reasons know that they may no longer be able to render the high level of service required to improve the well-being of the people and the nation.

Obi said the challenges facing the country today are such that should not be left for misfits to engage in trial and error.

He insists the problem facing the
nation is so enormous that it should not left in the care of leaders whose commitment are punctuated long holidays, medical tourism or absenteeism.

“I have just read a news report that the National Chairman of the ruling party, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has resigned from his position with immediate effect, citing health challenges as the reason.

“I must commend Dr. Ganduje for prioritising his health above all else. With his health reportedly in decline, it is both wise and honourable to step aside, knowing that he may no longer be able to render the level of service required bys the party, the people, and the nation.

“By this exemplary action, Dr. Ganduje has thrown a challenge to other leaders who, due to health-related issues, are no longer able to deliver optimally. I sincerely hope they take a cue from him.

“The challenges confronting our nation today require leaders who are not only competent but also physically and mentally fit, leaders with the capacity and agility to respond decisively and promptly to pressing issues.

“At this critical point and difficult time, we can no longer afford leadership defined by medical tourism, long holidays, or absenteeism caused by age-related ailments. These things are taking a serious toll on our development.

May God Almighty grant Dr. Ganduje a peaceful and fulfilling retirement.” he prayed.
