The Police Service Commission (PSC) has on Wednesday announced the appointment of AIG Dasuki Galadanci as the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) to represent the North West Geopolitical zone of the country. He will be replacing DIG Ibrahim Sani Ka’oje, who is set to retire on the 2nd of February this year.
Alongside this appointment, the PSC has also approved the promotion of 1897 senior police officers to their next substantive ranks. This includes the elevation of 14 Commissioners of Police (CP) to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIG), 21 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) to CPs, 20 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP) to DCPs, 109 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSP) to ACPs, 184 Superintendents of Police (SP) to CSPs, and 1549 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) to Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP).
Among the newly promoted officers are Yetunde O. Longe, Haruna Gabriel Garba, Tajudeen Akinwale Abass, Rex Dundun, Durosinmi Olatoye, Afolabi Babatola Adeniyi, Abiodun Oladimeji Asabi, Julius Alawari Okoro, George Chijioke Chuku, Paul Alifa Omata, Yusuf Adesina Akeem, Bzigu Yakabu Kwazhi Dali, Idris Nagoyo, and Ogundare Dare Emmanuel, who have all been appointed as AIGs. Olanrewaju Peter Ogunlowo, Mohammed Dahiru, Sunday Olukayode, Peter Ukachi Opara, Illiyasu Yahaya Kwarbai, Bello Mohammed Sani, Mohammed Umar Abba, Dankombo Faling Morris, Bello Shehu, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, Ahmed Musa, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, Simeon Udofia Akpanudom, Olugbemiga Emmanuel Adesina, and David Iloyanomon have been promoted to the rank of CP.
Dr. Solomon Arase, the Chairman of the PSC and retired Inspector General of Police, expressed his expectations for the newly promoted officers during an interactive session. He charged them to settle into their new ranks and play a vital role in combating banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes in the country. Dr. Arase also highlighted the current wave of criminal assaults and emphasized the need for the officers to be proactive in crime prevention.
The PSC Chairman urged the officers to familiarize themselves with the trends and patterns of crimes in their areas of responsibility and engage in predictive policing to address the current security challenges facing the nation. He emphasized that as senior officers, they would be held responsible for any lapses in the security apparatus of the country.
The promotions were recommended to the PSC by the Inspector General of Police, and Dr. Arase gave anticipatory approval for the appointments and promotions. The newly promoted officers were subjected to an interactive promotion interview, which served as a condition for their elevation to the next ranks.
The PSC’s decision to appoint a new DIG and promote several senior police officers reflects their commitment to enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of the Nigerian Police Force in tackling the prevailing security challenges across the country. The approval has been conveyed to the Inspector General of Police for implementation.
