The 2025 Children’s Day put together by FCT Tourism Volunteers Network and Department of Tourism Social Development Secretariat
The 2nd Edition of the Youth Alive / Children’s Day Carnival with the theme “Unity in Diversity, One Voice, One Nation: The Nigerian Dream,” brought the Territory to be alive with colour, rhythm and unity as Students from across the FCT gathered.
Giving her welcome address at the event,
Dr . Charity Akpamgbo, the Convener, founder iCherry travels and global concepts , and FCT Coordinator of the Tourism Volunteers Network said, the event is to reflect on our collective efforts and support for nurturing the future leaders and celebrating the power of unity in diversity.
She emphasized on the importance of early civic engagement,cultural identity and youth development adding that this year’s celebration was not just a carnival but a clear call to action.
Dr Akpamgbo reminded parents and stakeholders that to build the Nigerian dream begins with investing in the Nation’s most valuable asset which are the Children.
She expressed her delight to partners who contributed to the success of the event, creating a smooth and welcoming atmosphere.
Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the FCT Mandate Secretary for Education, Hajia Hajara Titillayo Alayande), Director, Department of Quality Assurance commended the organizers initiative for spotlighting Children’s development through Culture and Sport.
She stated that, using creative engagement helps to prepare the Children for Nation Building roles and moulding them to become responsible and productive adults who will in turn contribute to the greatness of their Society and Nigeria at large.
She reiterated the commitment of the Education Secretariat to live up to its statutory responsibilities and continue to fulfill it’s roles with passion and diligence.
She commended the FCT Tourism Volunteers Network and the Department of Tourism, Social Development Secretariat for their development efforts adding that such transformative programs for Children will build their self- confidence, cultural pride ,patriotism and leadership skills assuring that the Education Secretariat will continue to support such impactful initiatives.
Others who spoke said, it is imperative to continue to catch the Children young and inculcate in them positive values while reinforcing our collective vision for National Unity with educational and informative programs that will shape , inspire and empower the younger generation.
The colourful event featured the Cultural Parade Competition with 12 Schools representing diverse ethnicities and States and a friendly football match between El- Amin International School and Government Secondary School,Jabi.
The highlight of the program was presentation of cash awards and trophies to winners which include Government Secondary School, Karu as top winner in Gbagyi Dance , Government Secondary School,Lugbe emerged Second in their Igbo/ Yoruba display while Government Day Secondary School,Karu came third . Government Secondary School Jabi won the football match against EL – Amin International School.
The event was well attended by dignitaries and stakeholders which include Mrs Ann Dogo, Director, FCT Department of Tourism, representatives of the National Orientation Agency, Nigerian Police Force, National Park Service, DG Fire Service, and the Founder of Horizon University, Ekiti State among Others.
