President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna, a move aimed at boosting educational development in the region. The announcement was made by Vice President Kashim Shettima during a condolence visit to the Kukah family in Ikulu Kingdom, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
VP Shettima, who was accompanied by Senator Sunday Katung and a member of the House of Representatives, revealed that President Tinubu’s approval also extends to ongoing discussions for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan. The Vice President emphasized that these steps are part of the federal government’s commitment to the development of Southern Kaduna.
“The President has consented to the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna. This decision reflects his dedication to the educational advancement and overall well-being of the people in this region,” Shettima said.
During his visit to the residence of the late traditional ruler, His Highness Yohanna Sidi Kukah, the Agwom Akulu of Ikulu Chiefdom, VP Shettima also reaffirmed the President’s commitment to improving the security situation in the region. He highlighted the appointment of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff as evidence of the administration’s focus on addressing security challenges in the area.
“Rest assured, President Tinubu has the people of Southern Kaduna at heart,” Shettima added.
In his remarks, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, who is a family member of the late monarch, expressed gratitude to the Vice President for his visit. He thanked Shettima for taking the time to visit the community, noting that the journey had been difficult due to poor road conditions.
“The road took you around three and a half hours to navigate, and as you can see, the roads are largely broken. We are honored by your visit, and we believe you will remain a friend of the Ikulu nation,” Bishop Kukah said.
VP Shettima also praised Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani for his inclusive approach to governance, ensuring that all parts of the state feel connected and valued. He pledged the federal government’s support in collaborating with the state to improve infrastructure, particularly roads, in Southern Kaduna.
This visit and the announcement of new federal projects underscore the administration’s focus on regional development and the improvement of living conditions in Southern Kaduna.
