‎The Edo State Police Command says its operatives have rescued an abducted woman following what it described as an aggressive bush-combing operation in Igbanke, in collaboration with local security outfits.

‎This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem.

‎The statement read, “On 16th May, 2026, at about 0945hrs, one Chinedu George ‘m’, aged 18 years, reported that he was abducted with his mother, Mrs. Vivian George, aged 57 years, by suspected kidnappers while on their way to their farm at Ottah Community, Igbanke, but he managed to escape.

‎“Upon receipt of the report, operatives of the Division immediately mobilised detectives alongside members of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC), and local hunters into the forest on a rescue operation.

‎Ikoedem added that during the operation, the security team encountered the suspected kidnappers and engaged them in a gun duel.

‎“Overwhelmed by the superior firepower and pressure mounted by the operatives, the suspects fled into the forest with gunshot injuries and abandoned the victim,” she stated.

‎The PPRO said the victim was rescued unhurt and has since been reunited with her family.

‎The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Monday Agbonika, commended the operatives and collaborating local security teams for what he described as their bravery and swift response.

‎The command also reaffirmed its commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state, while urging residents to provide timely and credible information to security agencies.
