    Police arrest suspected kidnapper, recover firearms in Anambra

    ‎The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old suspected kidnapper, Okechukwu Chinweko, male,  popularly known as “bullet”, over alleged involvement in a case of abduction, rape and unlawful possession of firearm.

    ‎The suspect’s arm with a tattoo inscription: “Bullet” boldly written, was positively identified in connection with an incident that occurred on May 2, 2026, where he allegedly abducted and raped a female victim before police operatives rescued her.

    ‎He was said to have fled the scene after inflicting the victim with varying degrees of injuries.

    ‎This was disclosed in a press statement released on Tuesday by the Spokesman for the state Police command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.

    ‎Ikenga said the suspect was arrested in his hideout in Umudike community, Awka, in the early hours of May 16, after a credible information and due diligence by police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu.

    ‎He added that during the operation, the operatives recovered one locally fabricated Beretta pistol and eight 9mm live ammunition.

    ‎The statement read in part, “Anambra police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, in the early hours of May 16, acting on credible information, stormed an identified hideout in Umudike Community, Awka, and arrested one Okechukwu Chinweko, male, aged 30 years,  popularly known as ‘bullet’.

    ‎“The suspect was arrested over alleged involvement in a case of abduction, rape, and unlawful possession of firearm. The suspect’s arm had a tattoo reading ‘Bullet’ in bold.

    ‎“During the operation, the operatives recovered one locally fabricated Beretta pistol and eight 9mm live ammunition.

    ‎“Preliminary information reveals that the suspect was positively identified in connection with an incident that occurred on May 2, 2026, where he allegedly abducted and raped a female victim before police operatives rescued her.

    ‎“The victim was found with varying degrees of injuries on her body, while he fled the scene.”

    ‎Ikenga said reiterated the Anambra State police command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and bringing perpetrators of crime to justice, no matter how long it takes.

    ‎“The case shall be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigative proceedings,” he added.
