Speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday, Rimingado said that his arrest last week was related to his role as the anti-corruption agency’s head.
He stated that “corruption is fighting back” and called the development “unsurprising.” Corruption will retaliate when you confront it. The fight against corruption is filthy, but the fight against corruption is fair.
According to Rimingado, “there are lots of activities going around targeted against my person,” and three federal agencies have been active against him.
The Kano anti-graft head explained that his arrest last week was related to a purported fraud involving a former managing director of Kano Agricultural Supply Company Limited (KASCO).
“After conducting an investigation, we discovered that a public official had siphoned approximately N4 billion in Kano State Government funds through various entities,” he stated.
In compliance with established protocols and legal regulations, we conducted an investigation against that public official and seized the properties. We followed the appropriate procedures outlined in Section 40 of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, and we filed a lawsuit.
Following the accused’s arraignment and subsequent detention, he devised a number of strategies to steal the evidence of the crime, which is illegal. Therefore, we used maneuvers that involved walking the property from its current location to a different safe place so that it would not be tampered with till the court decides on the matter. I think that is what ignited them.
“They now call the police to arrest me when they are unable to wait for the court proceedings and they know they will not prevail in that case.”
He claimed that the police officers who arrived to take him into custody charged him with trespassing, mischief, and misuse of authority. He said that his panel was legally authorized to bring charges against suspects of corrupt activities, thus he questioned the accusations.
As of the time of writing, the police had not responded to the development.
