‎The Plateau State Government has ordered the immediate suspension of activities of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) across the state, following recent confrontations between its officers and transport operators in Jos.

‎

‎The suspension order was issued by the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Davou Gyang Jatau, and will take effect from Monday, September 21, 2026.

‎

‎According to the Commissioner, the decision became necessary after recent clashes involving VIO officials and commercial drivers, which prompted the government to review the operational framework of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services.

‎

‎He explained that the suspension will provide room for a comprehensive review and restructuring of the Directorate, particularly on how vehicle inspection and enforcement activities are conducted in coordination with transport operators and other stakeholders.

‎

‎The government described the move as a major intervention aimed at sanitizing the transport sector and addressing public concerns over the conduct of VIO personnel.

‎

‎It has, therefore, urged transport operators and other stakeholders to cooperate with authorities while the review lasts.

‎

‎The suspension, government said, will remain in force pending the conclusion of the assessment and issuance of new operational guidelines for vehicle inspection in the state.
