APC, PDP fail to get required 25% of Abuja votes

The ongoing electoral process has just become more complicated at the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi snagged up more than 6o percent of total votes cast in the Federal Capital City, Abuja.

With that development, neither of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, nor his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Atiku Abubakar could muster the required 25 percent votes to be declared president.

The Labour Party polled 281,987 amounting to 62 percent of total votes cast, while APC got  90,902, amounting to 20 percent of total votes cast.

PDP garnered 73,743 signifying 16 percent of total votes cast, while NNPP secured 4,517 amounting to a paltry one percent of total votes cast.

The constitution states that to be declared president, a candidate must get 25 percent of the votes cast in two-third states and the FCT.

If no candidate fulfills this requirements a rerun may be done for the top two contenders.
