The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stern warning to the All Progressives Congress (APC), cautioning against any attempt to rig the upcoming governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States. In a statement released through its spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP emphasized its commitment to preventing manipulation of the electoral process and asserted that the people of the three states were prepared to defend their votes.
The PDP reiterated its stance that it would not tolerate any form of manipulation and warned that those attempting to rig the elections might face the legitimate wrath of the people. The party called on Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, and Usman Ododo (referred to as Bello’s puppet candidate) to accept the rejection by the people and be ready to concede defeat on Saturday.
According to the PDP, entrance polls indicate that its candidates are leading and are expected to secure victories in the governorship elections in the three states. The party pledged to resist any electoral irregularities that deviate from the clear will of the people at the polling units.
The PDP accused Governor Uzodimma of contributing to the economic challenges in Imo State and creating an environment marred by violence, killings, and kidnappings. The party challenged the governor to disclose the names of Imo State citizens who allegedly contributed to his campaign, allowing the public to identify those supporting the insecurity and hardship represented by his administration.
Furthermore, the PDP called on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to redeploy the Imo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Sylvia Agu. The party accused Prof. Agu of favoring the APC in previous elections and emphasized the people’s demand that she should not participate in any capacity in the November 11, 2023, governorship election in Imo State.
