Ortom advocates for Southern presidency in 2027

    Published on

Former Governor of Benue State, Dr. Samuel Ortom, has thrown his weight behind the call for a southern presidency in 2027, citing the need for rotational leadership in Nigeria.

Ortom, who was interacting with journalists yesterday in Makurdi, also reflected on his life journey, achievements in office, and thoughts on Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

During his tenure as governor, Ortom highlighted his administration’s impact, including the construction of roads, renovation of over 2,000 schools, advancements in agriculture, and promotion of ranching as a solution to conflicts stemming from open grazing.

He also dismissed accusations of unpaid salaries, attributing lingering issues to inherited debt and recessionary pressures.

The immediate past Benue governor, expressed his support for rotational presidency, favoring a southern candidate in 2027 with northern leadership possibly returning in 2031.

He praised President Bola Tinubu for establishing the Ministry of Livestock and echoed his call for ranching to combat land-related insecurity.

Now back in business, Ortom disclosed struggles under current administration policies but affirmed his commitment to Nigeria’s growth, with over 1,000 people working with him.

He expressed willingness to accept a federal appointment only if it aligns with the interests of Benue people, denying allegations of intention to jump ship.
