The campaign for the Edo governorship election on September 21, 2024, intensified last weekend as Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, alongside other APC governors and leaders, visited Edo State to support the party’s candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo. This visit marked a homecoming for Governor Ododo, starting with Igarra in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, which shares cultural and linguistic ties with the Ebira of Kogi.

The Igarra people, who speak a dialect closely related to Ebira, turned out in large numbers to support their “son-governor” and rally behind Senator Okpebholo. Governor Ododo led a successful youth rally in Igarra on Friday before heading to Benin City for the APC mega rally at the University of Benin Sports Complex.

In Benin City, Ododo, who serves as the director of youth mobilization for the Edo APC Governorship Campaign Council, was a focal point for party leaders and governors. He spent the night strategizing with various groups to ensure the success of the rally and the election campaign.

Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu hosted Ododo and his team, providing them with comfort and hospitality throughout their stay. Ododo also welcomed Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Benin airport and accompanied him to the Oba of Benin’s palace.

Ododo received praise from Vice President Shettima, APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and other party officials for his extensive groundwork and effective youth mobilization efforts.

Throughout his campaign, Ododo visited several communities in Etsako, Owan, and Oredo, addressing both indigenous and non-indigenous groups, including Igbo traders and Kogi state residents in Edo. His energetic presence and persuasive message were well-received across the state.

As the September 21 election approaches, predictions favor Senator Okpebholo’s victory, reflecting the strong support for the APC and Governor Ododo’s dedication to the party’s success.
