The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) in Abuja has announced that it will prioritize the judgment on the petition filed by the Labour Party (LP) and its candidate, Peter Obi, challenging the election of President Bola Tinubu. The five-member panel, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, commenced proceedings around 9:30 am.

In a bid to expedite the judgment process, the panel indicated that it would skip certain arguments made during the hearing stage and focus primarily on the concluding part of the judgment. Following the call for Obi’s case, the panel also instructed the registrar to proceed with the petition filed by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

This decision underscores the significance of Obi’s petition, which seeks to challenge the legitimacy of President Tinubu’s election. As the first case to be decided by the PEPC, it will set a precedent for the subsequent petitions.

The outcome of this judgment holds immense political and legal importance, not only for the petitioners but also for the broader Nigerian political landscape. It has the potential to impact the tenure of President Tinubu and may lead to significant political consequences.

Furthermore, the prioritization of this case reflects the urgency with which the PEPC intends to resolve the disputes arising from the presidential election. The skip in arguments suggests that the court is keen on delivering a swift judgment that will provide clarity on the election’s legitimacy.

In the coming days, all eyes will be on the PEPC as it deliberates on the LP’s petition, with expectations of a fair and transparent process that upholds the principles of justice and democracy.
