The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) plans to replicate the Healthy Living Initiative spearheaded by Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the wife of Anambra State Governor, in all 179 communities within the state. The announcement was made by Mrs. Blessing Ekene Iruma, the State Coordinator of NYSC in Anambra, during a symposium on Healthy Living Advocacy organized by the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) youths at the ASATU Secretariat Hall in Government House, Awka.
Represented by Mr. Emeka Ugwu, Assistant Director of Information, NYSC, Anambra State, the Coordinator stated that the Healthy Living project aligns with the NYSC’s Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers and should be embraced and reproduced throughout the state. The NYSC has a pool of professionals, including doctors, pharmacists, nurses, physiotherapists, and other paramedics, ready to carry out various health-related activities.
The initiative covers free sensitization campaigns, medical checkups, counseling, diagnosis, referrals, and prescriptions. Communities seeking the NYSC’s medical outreach assistance are expected to provide the necessary drugs for the event. The Healthy Living project focuses on nutrition, environmental sanitation, personal hygiene, relaxation, exercise, walking, health education, routine medical checkups, and community-shared values.
Mrs. Iruma urged ASATU youths to raise awareness in their communities about the collaboration between NYSC and the First Lady of Anambra State, encouraging them to invite the NYSC to assist rural dwellers in adopting a healthy lifestyle.
