NRS clarifies, No New Vehicle Tax Announced

    Published on

The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has denied a viral claim suggesting that the Federal Government has introduced a new tax on vehicles starting from July 1.

The service said the information circulating online is false and was not issued by it or any government body. The message, which has been shared widely as an infographic, claimed that owners of private, commercial, and company vehicles must pay a new tax through online platforms or approved banks.

In a statement, the Special Adviser to the Chairman of the NRS, Dare Adekambi, explained that the content did not come from any official source. He also noted that the website mentioned in the viral post is not the correct official platform of the agency. According to him, the approved website of the NRS is different from the one being shared in the false message.

The agency stressed that no new vehicle tax has been introduced by the Federal Government as claimed. It warned members of the public to be careful with information they see on social media, especially when it comes from unknown or unverified sources.

Adekambi advised Nigerians to depend only on official communication channels for accurate updates on tax matters and government policies. He added that misleading posts like the viral infographic are meant to confuse the public and should be ignored.
