Concerned Northern Forum Urges President Tinubu to Revamp DSS and Address Defiance of Court Orders
The Concerned Northern Forum has advised President Tinubu to initiate a comprehensive overhaul of the Department of State Services (DSS) to ensure the effective fulfillment of its constitutional responsibilities in Nigeria.
Additionally, the forum called for the dismissal of Bichi, citing the agency’s failure to provide adequate intelligence reports to other security agencies in order to address the prevailing insecurity across the country.
In a statement issued in Kaduna on Wednesday, Mohammed Danlami, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Concerned Northern Forum, expressed dismay over the growing concerns regarding the DSS’s repeated defiance of court orders.“We are genuinely worried and concerned that a security agency as crucial and central to our nation’s security and safety is refusing to listen to the court orders. The ideal situation is to find that the DSS is a friend to the court and are to work hand in hand to maintain law and order, but the contrary is what is obtained in this case.”
The chairman lamented that the country has a leadership of the service that has refused to obey court orders, stressing that it has continued to keep people in detention even when the court judgement says otherwise.
The forum cited the cases of Nnamdi Kanu, Godwin Emefiele, Abdulrasheed Bawa, Aminu Yaro Dogara and others, describing the situation as a direct defiance to the court and must not continue or be tolerated.
It said the DSS has failed to provide synergy between security agencies, resulting in the security situation in the country.
The group regretted that the poor supply of intelligence has led to the failure of taming the various security challenges the country is bedevilled with.
It maintained that the DSS is supposed to be top on the chain of intelligence supply but has lost its credibility and value under the leadership of Bichi.
