Nigeria’s 4×100m men’s relay quartet suffers setback; Jamaica wins World qualification spot

Nigeria’s men’s 4x100m relay team was eliminated from the automatic qualification zone for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

This follows Jamaica’s 37.80s win at the London Diamond League on Saturday.

The Jamaican quartet of Rohan Watson, Oblique Seville, Kadrian Goldson, and Kishane Thompson stormed to victory at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford, finishing ahead of Great Britain (38.08s) and the Netherlands (38.17s).

Their winning time bumped Jamaica into 15th place on the global rankings list, moving Nigeria—previously 16th—into the danger zone with a time of 38.20s, which they ran at the Paris 2024 Olympics last year.

Only the top 16 teams qualify for the men’s 4x100m relay at the World Championships in Tokyo this September.

The Nigerian relay quartet must now seek qualification elsewhere and attempt to improve their time in order to knock off countries in the 16th spot to qualify.

Nigeria has achieved this in the past.
