The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), in collaboration with the United States, have conducted precision strike operations against identified foreign ISIS-linked elements operating in parts of North West Nigeria.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba. According to the statement, the operation was carried out with the approval of the appropriate Federal Government authorities and forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and other criminal groups threatening Nigeria’s national security.

Military authorities said the strikes were based on credible intelligence and followed careful operational planning designed to significantly degrade the capabilities of the targeted elements while minimizing collateral damage.

“The operation underscores the resolve of the Federal Government of Nigeria, working alongside strategic partners, to confront transnational terrorism and prevent foreign fighters from establishing or expanding their foothold within Nigeria’s borders,” the statement said.

The Armed Forces emphasized that the joint action reflects sustained cooperation between Nigeria and its international partners in addressing evolving security challenges, particularly the threat posed by foreign terrorist fighters.

Reaffirming its mandate, the military reiterated its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property and to supporting joint and inter-agency initiatives aimed at restoring lasting peace and security across the country.

Security operations against terrorist and criminal groups are ongoing in various parts of Nigeria, as authorities continue efforts to stabilize affected regions and safeguard communities.
