The Nigerian Army has charged the troops of the 14 Brigade Ohafia, to maintain respect for human rights and protect child rights while on duty.

It also warned them not to involve themselves in gambling and drug abuse.

The charge was given in Umuahia, Abia State, on Wednesday at the opening ceremony of a two-day sensitisation workshop the Nigerian Army organized for the troops of 14 Brigade Ohafia, in line with its Civil-Military Affairs.

The soldiers, who were charged to conduct themselves professionally in the discharge of their duties, were warned against posting their confidential pictures and important details on social media, as such materials may be hacked and used for evil actions by criminal elements.

In his message to the troops, the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs in the Nigerian Army, Maj.Gen.Musa Awwal Etsu-Ndagi said the training was put together to update the soldiers about their rights, the rights of the civilians and children, as well as equip them about how to conduct themselves professionally.

He further advised the soldiers on the need to fill the current Next of Kin Forms, saying that the updated forms would protect a soldier’s wife and children from being defrauded or victimized by any individual in case of a soldier’s demise.

Major. Gen. Etsu-Ndagi equally tasked the troops to build love and cohesion in their families.

In his lecture, Deputy Controller of Narcotics, Bekwele Chukwu from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, informed the soldiers about the dangers in consuming unapproved and controlled drugs, cautioning that such drugs would interfere with their sound minds.

Earlier in his speech, the Commander 14 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmad Mansur Dikko, thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Waidi Shaibu for organizing the workshop for the troops.
