The Nigerian Law Society and the Ghana Law Society on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding to establish the Pan-African Institute for Continuing Legal Education. According to a statement by Tonye-Clinton Jaja, the executive director of NLS, on Tuesday.
The agreement, he said, aimed to strengthen continuing legal education and professional development among lawyers across Africa.
Jaja said the two professional bodies agreed to collaborate to design and deliver continuing legal education programmes through both physical and virtual platforms.
Jaja said the proposed institute would be headquartered in Accra, Ghana, adding that the initiative would provide a platform for lawyers to improve their professional knowledge and skills.
He said he signed the agreement on behalf of the NLS through his representative, Apaerala Perey.
On the Ghanaian side, the president of the GLS, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, who is also a member of the Ghanaian parliament, signed the MoU.
Jaja said GLS promised to send a seven-member delegation to attend the NLS annual general conference on November 4 and 5.
