NIDCOM Urges Nigerians in Lebanon to Evacuate Amid Rising Tensions

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has advised Nigerian nationals residing in Lebanon to consider leaving the country while commercial flights are still operational. This warning comes amid escalating tensions following Israeli military actions against Hezbollah and other areas in Lebanon.

In a statement released by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols at NIDCOM, the commission expressed concerns about the ongoing conflict. While reports indicate that many Nigerians have relocated from the southern regions of Lebanon and are currently safe, NIDCOM emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant until a ceasefire is established.

Fortunately, the statement noted that no Nigerians have reported injuries or incidents thus far. NIDCOM urged citizens to maintain safety and to stay in contact with the Nigerian Embassy in Lebanon for further guidance.

The situation in the region has intensified, with Israeli forces shifting their focus from Gaza, where hostilities began on October 7, to operations along its northern border with Lebanon. Recent clashes with Hezbollah have resulted in over 1,000 fatalities, including strikes on Beirut and its southern suburbs.

NIDCOM reassured citizens that their welfare and safety are top priorities for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
