The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed shock and sadness over the death of Mr. Sunday Ndidi, father of Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi, following a road accident.

In a statement on Tuesday, NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi said, “This is very sad. Wilfred has just given his all for the nation at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco, where we secured the bronze medals.

“He returned to Turkey full of motivation, aiming to help his club win silverware this season and assist the Super Eagles in reaching new heights this year.

“We are deeply shocked and can hardly find the words, but we sincerely pray for the repose of Mr. Sunday Ndidi’s soul and that Almighty God will comfort our team captain, his siblings, relatives, and all who mourn his passing.”

Politic Nigeria reported that Mr Sunday Ndidi, a retired military officer, was involved in an accident in Umunede, Delta State, and was pronounced dead after being rushed to a hospital in Agbor.

Ndidi’s club, Besiktas, also confirmed the incident on Tuesday.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our footballer Wilfred Ndidi’s esteemed father, Sunday Ndidi, in a fatal traffic accident,” the club said in a statement via its official X account.
