‎National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency has reaffirmed its mandate to enforce environmental laws and regulate pollution across Nigeria, the Benue State Coordinator, Mr Adanu Majesty, has said.

‎Adanu stated this while outlining NESREA’s core responsibilities in Benue. He said the agency monitors and controls air, water, land and noise pollution arising from industrial and human activities.

‎The coordinator said NESREA conducts environmental compliance monitoring through facility and project inspections to ensure adherence to established standards.

‎He added that the agency promotes environmental awareness and education to encourage responsibility among citizens and organisations. NESREA also supports sustainable use of natural resources and biodiversity conservation, he said.

‎Adanu noted that NESREA ensures Nigeria complies with international environmental treaties, including the Basel Convention, which prohibits transboundary movement of hazardous waste.

‎He further disclosed that the agency administers environmental compliance certificates, emission permits and waste disposal licences for commercial operations nationwide.

‎The state coordinator assured residents that NESREA is ready to address public complaints relating to environmental issues in Benue.
