The Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, has held a strategic engagement with the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, to strengthen collaboration and expand awareness of the Fund’s student loan opportunities among students and prospective beneficiaries across the state.

The meeting, which took place on Sunday, was part of NELFUND’s ongoing efforts to deepen stakeholder engagement and ensure that eligible Nigerian students are adequately informed about the financial support available under the Fund’s mandate.

Sawyerr was accompanied at the engagement by the Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi.
Discussions centred on opportunities for greater collaboration between the Lagos State Government and NELFUND, particularly in raising awareness of the student loan scheme and improving access for eligible students in tertiary institutions across the state.
The NELFUND chief executive reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to expanding access to higher education by providing financial support to qualified Nigerian students seeking tertiary education, irrespective of their socio-economic background.
Hamzat commended NELFUND for its interventions in supporting Nigerian students and expressed appreciation for the Fund’s efforts to make higher education more accessible to young Nigerians.
Sawyerr also appreciated the Lagos State Government for its continued cooperation and support, particularly its efforts to encourage tertiary institutions within the state to participate in the NELFUND programme and ensure that eligible students are aware of the opportunities available to them.
The engagement underscores NELFUND’s commitment to working closely with state governments and other strategic stakeholders to reach more students, provide them with accurate information and empower them to pursue their educational aspirations.
The Fund reiterated its commitment to building strategic partnerships that advance equitable access to higher education and ensure that no qualified Nigerian student is denied the opportunity to pursue tertiary education because of financial constraints.
