The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has conducted successful operations in Ondo, Edo, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), resulting in the interception of substantial quantities of illicit drugs and substances over the past week.
According to a statement by NDLEA spokesman Mr. Femi Babafemi, 227kg of hemp was seized from Atoshi camp, Emure-Ile, Owo LGA, Ondo State. Two suspects have been apprehended in connection with this operation.
In Edo State, operatives acted on intelligence on February 14 and intercepted a consignment of methamphetamine originating from Onitsha, Anambra, and bound for Lagos. The methamphetamine, weighing 0.966kg, was concealed inside a cassava-made local food item known as “Abacha.” The driver of the vehicle, a 42-year-old man, was arrested.
Additionally, on the same day in Edo, another team of NDLEA officers intercepted a Peugeot 406 space wagon car driven by a 47-year-old man on the Uromi road in Esan Northeast LGA. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 865 bottles of codeine, 2,600 pills of tramadol, and 600 tablets of swinol and rohypnol.
In the FCT, NDLEA operatives conducted raid operations in the Kubwa area and arrested a 47-year-old and an 18-year-old in possession of 10.5kg of cannabis (Indian hemp), 13.5g of diazepam, and 2.9g of tramadol tablets.
Furthermore, NDLEA commands across the country have continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy campaign. Activities included sensitization lectures for students and teachers at various schools in Oyo, Niger, Anambra, Kaduna, Enugu, and Kano states.
These operations underscore the NDLEA’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse, as well as its efforts to raise awareness and educate the public about the dangers of drug abuse.
