The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has urged the public to disregard social media posts circulating as the results of its nationwide primaries held on May 28 and 29, 2026.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Osa Director Esq, said in a statement that the official results are still with the National Executive Council, NEC.
He stressed that only NEC has the authority to release and announce the outcomes of the primaries.
“The general public is hereby urged to disregard the various results circulating on social media as the outcome of the nationwide primaries conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC,” the statement read.
Director explained that the results of the primaries are currently with the party’s National Executive Council.
He noted that NEC is solely responsible for collation, ratification and public announcement of candidates.
To address the matter, the NDC said its National Leader and former Bayelsa State governor, Senator Seriake Dickson, has directed that a NEC meeting be convened.
According to the statement, all NEC members are expected in Abuja for a pre-NEC meeting on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
The main NEC meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 3, 2026, where the primaries will be considered.
The party assured stakeholders that the official list of candidates would be made public after NEC’s deliberations.
Director said the public and other stakeholders will be duly informed once the list of candidates to fly the party’s flag is transmitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The clarification comes amid widespread speculation online following the conclusion of NDC primaries across the country.
The NDC is one of the parties positioning for the 2027 general election, with key candidates including Peter Obi for president and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as running mate.
Party officials said the NEC meeting will also address other organizational matters ahead of the polls.
For now, the NDC warned members and supporters to avoid sharing unverified results attributed to the party.
