The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has addressed misleading comments circulating on social media about MAFAB Communications’ 5G rollout. The false claims suggested that MAFAB, one of the companies granted a 5G license by the NCC, had not yet launched the service despite having obtained the license almost two years ago.
The NCC clarified that MAFAB Communications was indeed one of the successful companies awarded a 5G license during the transparent 5G Auction conducted on December 13, 2021. After fulfilling the condition of paying the required fee of $273.6 million in February 2022, MAFAB formally received the license on February 22, 2022.
Following the issuance of the 5G license and in accordance with rollout conditions, MAFAB publicly launched its services in Abuja on January 24, 2023, and in Lagos on January 26, 2023. The initial launch covered six cities, including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Kano, and Kaduna.
The NCC has been closely monitoring MAFAB’s rollout progress and receiving regular updates on the infrastructure deployment for their service offerings, as stipulated in their operating license.
The NCC strongly advises the public and all stakeholders to disregard the false and misleading information regarding MAFAB’s 5G rollout. The company has already launched its 5G services in select cities, in line with its license obligations.
