The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced the completion of the linkage of all phone numbers in Nigeria to a National Identification Number (NIN).

During the 2024 Annual Corporate Governance Conference in Lagos, NCC Executive Vice-Chairman Dr. Aminu Maida acknowledged the difficulties faced by Nigerians throughout this process. He emphasized that the NIN-SIM linkage initiative is crucial for combating crime and enhancing security across the nation.

Dr. Maida remarked, “We have recently concluded the implementation of the federal government’s 2020 policy of linking every phone number to a NIN. Although it was challenging for many, it is important to recognize the benefits this brings.”

He further highlighted that every phone number in the country is now associated with a verified NIN, enhancing the integrity of telecommunications in Nigeria.
