The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS)  collaborates with the International Monetary Fund(IMF) to strengthen public sector debt statistics in Nigeria.
The NBS, led by the Statistician-General of the Federation Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, received a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on a mission visit aimed at concretizing the synergy.
The engagement provided an opportunity for both institutions to hold extensive discussions on the collection, collation, management, and analysis of public sector debt data to support evidence-based policymaking and economic planning in Nigeria.
The discussions also highlighted the critical role of accurate and reliable statistics in promoting transparency, fiscal sustainability, and informed decision-making. As Nigeria continues to navigate a dynamic economic landscape, the importance of credible data systems in shaping sound macroeconomic and financial policies remains paramount.
The visit further reinforced the shared commitment of the NBS and IMF to enhancing statistical capacity and improving the quality of official statistics in line with international best practices.
Speaking during the visit, the Statistician-General expressed appreciation to the IMF for its continuous technical support and partnership with the Bureau, particularly during the recently concluded CPI and GDP rebasing exercises.
He noted that the collaboration has contributed significantly to strengthening Nigeria’s statistical system and expressed optimism for deeper cooperation between the NBS and IMF in advancing data-driven development and institutional capacity building.
