Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has described his emergence as running mate to Peter Obi on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, as “a profound honour and a call to national service” ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Kwankwaso made the remarks in a statement posted on his official X account on Sunday, days after the NDC announced its presidential ticket.
“I am deeply humbled and profoundly honoured by the confidence the Nigeria Democratic Congress has reposed in me as its Vice-Presidential Candidate,” he wrote.
According to him, the nomination reflects the party’s resolve to build a broad-based movement focused on unity, good governance and democratic values.
Kwankwaso said he was delighted to participate in the official affirmation ceremony where Obi was confirmed as the NDC’s presidential flagbearer.
He thanked Senator Seriake Dickson, described as the party’s national leader, and other stakeholders for what he called a courageous and forward-looking decision.
“The task ahead is significant, but our commitment to the Nigerian people is unwavering,” the former governor stated.
He pledged to work closely with Obi, party leaders, and supporters nationwide to articulate a vision that addresses Nigeria’s security, economic and social challenges.
Political analysts say Kwankwaso’s entry on the NDC ticket adds a new dimension to the evolving 2027 contest, given his strong base in the North and extensive political experience.
The NDC is expected to formally unveil its campaign direction in the coming weeks as parties intensify positioning ahead of the general election.
