Musa Kida Commend D’Tigress Tour Performance

    Published on

The President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Engr. Musa Kida has commended the Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following the conclusion of their tour of the USA.

The D’Tigress yesterday wrapped up their friendly tournament against WNBA side, Indiana Fever losing 105-57.

Kida in a statement described the tour as a great opportunity for the team to prepare ahead of the world cup championship coming up soon in Germany.

“The WNBA Tour is a friendly tournament where we expected our girls to test themselves and get the necessary exposure. The aim was not to win every game but expose the players especially the younger players to the kind of high profile games they will encounter at the world cup qualifiers. So it was a great experience and good test games for the D’Tigress.

The essence is to strategically invest, not on the interim but in the future of the team.”

The AfroBasket champions began the tour with a 89-63 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks on 25 April, and showed improvement in their second game against the Minnesota Lynx on 27 April, where they lost 88-79.

The squad which was made of up 21 players comprises more of emerging talents with only seven from the convocation that won the 2025 Afrobasket.

“The Nigeria Basketball Federation’s focus is aimed squarely at the future. While some might fixate on immediate results, our perspective extends beyond the scoreboard. This tour is fundamentally about growth, exposure, and identifying the next generation of players.”
