Senator John Owan Enoh, the Minister of Sports Development, has urged Nigerian athletes to strive for excellence and podium finishes at the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.

Speaking at the official handover and farewell ceremony of Team Nigeria’s contingent in Abuja, Senator Enoh emphasized the significance of hard work and dedication in achieving success at the Games. He expressed confidence in the athletes’ abilities and urged them to make Nigeria proud.

Senator Enoh also announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has fully approved the budget for the Games, underscoring the government’s commitment to supporting sports development in the country. He urged the athletes to reciprocate the President’s goodwill by delivering outstanding performances in Paris.

“We have no excuse whatsoever,” Senator Enoh stated. “The President has approved the entire budget for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, so it is up to us to try to reciprocate the goodwill of the President and give him reasons to continue to do more.”

Highlighting the importance of foreign training tours for enhancing the athletes’ readiness, Senator Enoh emphasized the ambassadorial role of the athletes, calling for discipline, honesty, commitment, and responsibility.

“Our expectations are high, and given my interactions with our athletes, I have no doubt that these expectations will be met,” he concluded.

The ceremony marked a pivotal moment as Team Nigeria prepares to compete against the world’s best in Paris, aiming to bring glory to the nation through their performances on the global stage.
