In Ohokobe Ndume, Umuahia North LGA of Abia State, a 70-year-old man named Stephen Irobunda has evaded lynching for allegedly killing a young man named Mr. Bright Odizuru.

During an altercation between the elderly guy and several young people in the village on Saturday, the suspect shot and killed the victim, Odizuru.

According to community sources who spoke, the suspect became enraged when the victim and other young people were playing football close to Irobunda’s residence during the local government election.

The man reportedly fired into the air to frighten the young people away.

In reaction, the young people returned to Irobunda’s home to find out why he was attempting to scare them with gunfire.

The man then pulled out his gun once more and shot Bright Odizuru, one of the young people, in the abdomen, causing him to pass away at a hospital.

The young man’s death infuriated the Ohokobe Mbaocha teenagers, who attacked the suspect and tried to lynch him until security personnel came to his aid.

Not content, the young people attempted to burn down his house as well, but the security guards stopped them.

The death was confirmed by ASP Maureen Chinaka, the spokesperson for the Abia State Police Command.

“Police have received such reports; they have visited the crime scene and are conducting an investigation at SCID,” she stated.
