Samson Sikiru, a 32-year-old suspected drug addict, has been apprehended for allegedly strangling his mother to death. The incident took place on Sunday at their residence in Itanrin, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

The suspect’s younger brother, who works as a night guard, notified neighbors about the situation upon his return from work. Upon investigation, it was discovered that Sikiru was responsible for his mother’s death. He was subsequently handed over to the police.

Sources indicate that Sikiru had been known as a drug addict and had been absent from home for five years before recently returning. The motive for the alleged murder is yet to be determined.

Confirming the incident, Omotola Odutola, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, stated that the command was aware of the case. She revealed that the suspect is currently being treated as a neuropsychiatric patient.

According to Odutola, “The suspect had been staying with his mother, whom he visited during the Sallah celebration. Although he has a history of mental retardation, his condition was being managed to the best of his mother’s knowledge. It is not yet clear if there was any provocation from his mother, but preliminary investigations revealed that earlier on the same day, he was tied up in the house, only to untie himself, attack his mother, and strangle her.”

The body of the deceased was found on the bed, displaying signs of violence upon the arrival of the Divisional Police Officer. Examination of the body revealed marks of violence, including lacerations on the deceased’s right leg, indicating the use of force.

Samson Sikiru remains in police custody, but he has not provided coherent responses to the questions posed to him by investigators. The investigation is ongoing.
