Maintenance: Ogun SWAN harps on Public-Private Partnership for sports facility

    Published on

The Ogun State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has called on the state government to secure long-term maintenance of sports facilities by partnering with private investors.

In a communiqué issued after its June 3 congress in Abeokuta, SWAN applauded the state’s investments in world-class infrastructure for the National Sports Festival but warned against the risk of post-event neglect.

“The government should work with private institutions to ensure these facilities remain functional and future-proof,” the communiqué urged.

Citing stadiums like the MKO Abiola International Stadium and Alake Sports Centre, the group stressed that millions invested must not go to waste due to lack of upkeep.

The congress also praised Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration for successfully hosting the Games and commended officials like Sports Commissioner Wasiu Isiaka and National Sports Commission DG Bukola Olopade.

    Other resolutions included:

    • Calls for renewed grassroots sports development
    • Increased support for Gateway United FC
    • Hosting more international fixtures like the recent Super Falcons match in Abeokuta

The communiqué was signed by SWAN officials: Hassan Abdulsalam (Chairman), Fatai Sobande (Secretary), and ‘Funmi Sadiq (Member).
