The Lagos State government has closed Idera Market in the Oshodi-Isolo Local Council Development Area due to severe sanitation issues.

Maj. Olaniyi Olatunbosun (rtd), Corps Marshal of the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI), stated that the market’s conditions were unacceptable, noting that the area had not seen drainage maintenance in over a year, resulting in a pervasive foul smell.

Olatunbosun explained that the closure was ordered following directives from the state commissioner. The market will remain shut until necessary cleaning and maintenance are completed, a process that could take days or even weeks.

Despite complaints about ineffective waste management services, the inspection revealed that market vendors likely did not utilize these services adequately. Olatunbosun emphasized that Idera Market is not the only market in the Oshodi area and urged vendors to take responsibility for maintaining cleanliness.

The Lagos State government is expected to reopen the market once the sanitation issues are resolved.
