The people of Ibagun-Okelele community in Ilorin East local government area of Kwara state have decried the incessant cases of kidnapping in their neighborhoods, particularly Gaa- Osibi and Alagbado in Ilorin South local government area.

To nip the menace in the bud, the President of Ibagun Progressive Union (IPU), Alhaji Kuranga Omomeji Morogun, called for synergy among the Ilorin South local government, Ilorin East local government, the state government and security agencies.

The President of Ibagun Progressive Union, who made the call on Tuesday in Ilorin in a statement, expressed the concern of the people of Ibagun-Okelele community over the spate of abduction of residents of Alubarika and Aleniboro communities, both in Ilorin South local government area of the state, adding that the fear of his people stemmed from the fact that Ibagun- Okelele community shares boundary with the troubled communities, though, he said, no single case of abduction has occurred in the entire Ibagun- Okelele community.

While acknowledging the concerted efforts of the state government and the security agencies in nipping kidnapping and other acts of criminality in the bud across the length and breadth of the state, Omomeji urged them not to rest on their oars until the state is totally rid of criminal elements.

Omomeji, who sympathised with the people of Gaa- Osibi and Alagbado communities over the recent attacks by kidnappers, urged
the people of Ibagun-Okelele community to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to the appropriate quarters.

It would be recalled that no fewer than four cases of abduction had taken place in Gaa- Osibi, Alagbado communities in quick succession in recent times.

While two persons were reportedly killed by the kidnappers, five children, three of whom are children of same parents, were abducted by the gunmen.

The situation, it was gathered, has forced the residents of the troubled communities to abandon their homes to look for shelter elsewhere.
