The Kogi state Commissioner for Agriculture, Timothy Ojimah has said that the state is in full support of ranching project as a way of addressing the age long crisis between herders and farmers.

The commissioner was reacting to the question of whether the state will follow other states to support and provide land for the establishment of ranching in the state.

The Commissioner who spoke with our Correspondent on Wednesday in Lokoja said that “Kogi state has always aligned with the concept of ranching right from the time of the immediate past administration of former governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, who approved that, including RUGA which the current government is equally supportive of”.

He said that through Livestock productivity and resilience support project, Lpres and the newly established ministry of livestock development in the state, Kogi state is poised to promote modern livestock farming practices.

“Livestock processing centre has been approved at Osara, where we have earmarked 200 hecters of land.

It’s a world bank support project aimed at building an integrated livestock farming adding that Kogi state government recognizes that the age long herders farmers crisis can only be resolved through deliberate policies. Of which ranching would play a key role.”
