    Kogi school bags 2nd position in 2025 MTN anti-substance abuse quiz competition

    The GYB Model Science Secondary School (GYBMSSS) of Adankolo‑Lokoja, Kogi State, has emerged runner‑up at the 2025 MTN Anti‑Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) School Quiz Competition Grand Finale.

    The competition was held live on YouTube on November 18, 2025 with 51 public and private secondary schools from the six geo‑political zones of Nigeria.

    The program unfolded in three stages: 31 schools competed at the State level, 11 advanced to the Regional round, and the final nine (9) battled it out at the National grand finale.

    The Government Day Second Secondary School, Borno State, topped the leaderboard with 86.7%.

    A tie at 80% each between GYB Model Science Secondary School, Lokoja, and Yerwa Government Girls Secondary School, Borno State, triggered a tie‑breaker round.

    After the tie‑breaker round, GYB Model Science Secondary School, Lokoja, scored 90% and came 2nd Position, while Yerwa Government Girls Secondary School, Borno State, scored 80% clinging 3rd Position.

    Speaking on the development, the Principal of GYBMSSS Lokoja, Chief Ajofe Goodwins’ Yakubu, lauded the students for their brilliant performance, noting the achievement honors Governor Ahmed Ododo and the entire Kogi State community.

    “The feat underscores Gov Ododo’s commitment to delivering quality education, especially in public schools, and thanked the school administrators and teachers for their dedication to raising a generation of excellent leaders with good character.” He added.

    The MTN ASAP Grand Finale featured inspiring messages from MTN Foundation, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

    It celebrated excellence, resilience, and positive choices, with various categories of awards and prizes handed to winning schools, students, and teachers.

    The triumph of GYB Model Science Secondary School has put Lokoja and Kogi State in the national spotlight, reinforcing the power of education and substance‑abuse prevention.
