No fever than seven thousand vehicles on their waya to to the Southern parts of the country for the Easter holidays are currently trapped on Lokoja-Abuja highway.

Our correspondent observed that the gridlock stretches for several kilometers. along the road on what has become reoccurring phenomenon during festivities.

Last December similar scenario played out with several motorist spending up to four days on the road.

Some of the motorists spoken to blamed the gridlock on impatience on the parts of the drivers as well as the bad portion of the the which has been under construction for the past twenty years!

AbduYekeem who works in Abuja and heading to Ibadan said that he has been unlucky to suffer this gridlock for the past two years when traveling home for either Xmas or Easter holidays.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the state chapter of the people’s Democratic party, PDP, Mohammed Sani Gambo blamed governments at both the state and federal levels for the poor state of the road.
” The road has been abandoned for 20 years due to inadequate funding and incompetent contractors handling the project . I spent 7 hours while traveling to Abuja on Thursday!”Gambo said .

“The road is a major gateway linking the Federal capital Territory to the North Central and parts of the South serving food supplies, fuel distribution and manufactured goods .

With Easter underway, many Nigerian will spend the holidays on the road. Our senators and other lawmakers’ should join other governments in pushing for urgent government intervention because the hardship is becoming too much he added.
