The Katsina State Government has officially expressed interest in taking over the 10-megawatt wind farm located in the state as part of its efforts to enhance electricity access and improve power supply for residents. The plan also includes integrating solar energy to create a hybrid power solution, effectively expanding the plant’s capacity and reliability.
This development was disclosed by Governor Dikko Umar Radda during a high-level strategic dialogue with the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, held on Tuesday. The meeting focused on fostering stronger federal-state collaboration to advance sustainable energy infrastructure and boost electricity delivery in Katsina.
Governor Radda, speaking on behalf of the state, highlighted the government’s partnership with Genesis Energy as part of its strategy to assume control of the wind farm, originally built by the Federal Government. He emphasized the importance of combining wind and solar energy to ensure a more consistent and scalable power supply across the state.
In response, Minister Adelabu lauded the governor’s forward-thinking approach and commitment to expanding electricity access. He noted that improved power supply would not only uplift living standards but also drive economic growth and investment in Katsina.
The Minister welcomed the proposal, stating that it aligns with the provisions of the Electricity Act 2023, which empowers state governments to lead energy initiatives within their territories. He further reiterated that the plan complements President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes universal access to sustainable energy and economic empowerment through reliable electricity.
Chief Adelabu assured the state of the Federal Government’s full support in facilitating a seamless concession process for the wind farm. He affirmed readiness to collaborate closely with the Katsina State Government to realize its vision of a modern, resilient, and diversified energy landscape.
With this move, Katsina joins a growing number of sub-national governments taking bold steps to localize energy development, leveraging both renewable resources and federal support to power their future. Rewrite this news story please
