Contrary to reports circulating in various media outlets, Enyimba’s newly appointed chairman, Nwankwo Kanu, has refuted claims of the sacking of head coach Finidi George.

Earlier speculations suggested that Finidi had been relieved of his duties following his successful leadership in securing the record-breaking ninth Nigeria Premier League title for the club last season.

These rumors emerged after Ifeanyi Ekwueme, the club’s new Sporting Director, acting on behalf of Kanu, issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the team’s technical staff.

In an official letter titled “Application for re-absorption into Enyimba management,” which was obtained by our correspondent, it stated, “The management, staff, and technical crew of Enyimba’s first and second teams are hereby instructed to reapply for their positions with immediate effect. All applications should be submitted to the club’s TMS manager within 48 hours.”

When questioned about Finidi’s status at the club, Kanu dismissed the speculation, stating, “No, it is not true. He is our coach, and we are happy with him,”

Meanwhile, Finidi, who signed a two-year contract with the Aba giants in 2021, is reportedly engaged in negotiations for a new contract as his current agreement expires in September.
