Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano state has called upon the police to step up their fight against various criminal activities including thuggery, armed robbery, and phone snatching within the state. He made this appeal during a meeting with the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and his team.
The governor praised the police for their efforts in combating crime within the state and stressed the importance of ensuring the security of lives and property. He expressed his administration’s commitment to providing support and cooperation to the police and other security agencies to carry out their duties effectively.
Governor Yusuf highlighted that his administration had taken steps to bring the police closer to the people by constructing police headquarters for the Tarauni Area Command and Divisional Police at strategic locations. He confirmed that additional Divisional Police headquarters were also under construction.
In response, the Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended Governor Yusuf for his support in providing necessary resources for the police to perform their duties diligently. He revealed his focus on modernizing community policing through technology-driven initiatives and intelligence gathering.
Egbetokun disclosed plans to establish a Special Intervention Squad composed of well-trained personnel to swiftly respond to emergencies, and Kano state was chosen as the pilot location for this project.
The Passing Out Parade of 169 Cadets from the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano, was also celebrated, with the Commandant expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support to the Academy. The graduating officers were encouraged to uphold patriotism and dedication in their duties, considering their role as defenders of peace and order. The Commandant noted the country’s ongoing security challenges and highlighted the Ag. Inspector General of Police’s efforts to reposition the force for enhanced service delivery.
The Academy’s growth and progress were outlined, and future plans included expanding academic programs and introducing new departments to prepare officers for modern policing challenges. The provision of a modern forensic laboratory further emphasizes the Academy’s commitment to advanced training in forensic technology.
Overall, the efforts of the Kano state government and the Nigeria Police Academy aim to strengthen law enforcement and ensure a safer environment for the people of Kano and beyond.
