The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it will hold its Policy Meeting on Admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria on Friday, July 18, 2024. Chaired by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, the meeting aims to establish minimum cut-off marks for the upcoming 2024/2025 admission cycle.

Dr. Fabian Benjamin, spokesperson for JAMB, disclosed this in the board’s weekly bulletin released to journalists on Monday. The policy meeting is pivotal as it sets the stage for the admission exercise each academic year, including the formulation of admission guidelines and standards across all tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

Key stakeholders expected at the meeting include heads of regulatory agencies such as the National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), National Council for Colleges of Education (NCCE), heads of tertiary institutions, and representatives from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), among others.

During the meeting, the Registrar will present reports on the recently concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and ongoing Direct Entry (DE) applications. The analysis of candidates’ performance will influence the establishment of minimum admission scores for the year.

The meeting will also address issues from the previous admission exercises, define admission requirements for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, and discuss stakeholders’ compliance with existing guidelines, proposing amendments as necessary.
