INEC rejects petition to recall Natasha

    Published on

The recall petition for Kogi Central Senatorial District lawmaker Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has been denied by the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Commission stated that the petition did not satisfy the necessary conditions to recall a Federal Republic of Nigeria senator.

A petition from Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s constituents requesting the start of her recall procedure was recently formally accepted by the Commission.

The appeal was delivered to INEC’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday, where it was welcomed by Secretary to the Commission Rose Oriaran-Anthony.

Kogi Central’s senatorial representative, Natasha, is presently suspended for allegedly breaking Senate regulations.

The petitioners claim that more than 250,000 of the approximately 480,000 registered voters in the senatorial district.

“Constituents’ Petition for the Recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on Grounds of Loss of Confidence” was the title of the petition.

“The petition for the recall of the Senator representing the Kogi Central Senatorial Distict has not met the requirement of Section 69(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended),” the Commission stated in a terse statement on Thursday.
