Following a 7.7-magnitude earthquake that occurred in the area on Friday, India has pledged to help earthquake victims in Thailand and Myanmar.

Prime Minister Modi posted on X that “India stands ready to offer all possible assistance” and that “our authorities are on standby.”

Although other services gave differing readings, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported the earthquake’s magnitude as 7.7.

The epicenter, according to the USGS, was roughly 16 kilometers from Sagaing in northwest Myanmar.

The earthquake was felt in parts of Bangladesh and India, with tremors reaching the Indian state of Manipur, which borders Myanmar.

Local media reported panic in the western district of the regional capital, Imphal, though no significant damage was initially reported.

Tremors were also felt in Kolkata and the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka.
