‎Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has declared that 2027 will be his final attempt at the Presidency.

‎Speaking during an interview monitored in Abuja, the former Vice President said he will not contest another presidential election if he loses the 2027 poll.

‎“No, I have said it before, right from this election, I will not contest again,” Atiku stated in response to a question on a possible 2031 bid.

‎Atiku has contested the Presidency several times on different party platforms, but his declaration now appears to close the door on any future run after 2027.

‎The ADC candidate also used the opportunity to mobilise voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.

‎“First of all, I appeal to those who have voter cards, for their own sake, their families, and their future, to go out and vote. That is the solution to the problems they are facing,” he said.

‎He stressed that voting alone is not enough, and urged citizens to remain vigilant at polling units.

‎“After going out to vote, they should also stay, escort, and ensure that those votes are counted,” Atiku said.

‎The former Vice President was also asked about concerns regarding his fitness to govern Nigeria given his age.

‎Responding, Atiku insisted that he is healthy and capable of leading the country.

‎“No doctor has declared that I am unfit in terms of health. I know my body, I know I am healthy, and I do not have a single defect,” he said.

‎With INEC’s campaign timetable already released, Atiku’s declaration sets the tone for what he describes as his last shot at Nigeria’s highest office.
